A big thanks to all the CrossFit Staffers that came out to teach at the level 1 cert. Chuck Carswell, Nadia Shatila, Dennis Marshall, Stephane Rochet and Pat Sherwood. These guys were fantastic, and they run such a class act all around. They did two WODs during the lunch hour and it was cool to watch as we’ve seen so many videos of these guys. It was nice to see them suffer and sweat just like us mortals, and to hit the workouts with intensity.

It got me thinking, and I believe I already know the answer. Here is the question I get often : “Do the CrossFit workouts get easier?”

What do you think?

Do workouts get easier? good question. I think that eventually there comes a time that you need to ask yourself if you need to start adding weight to some of the wods. If not weight then definitely attacking the wods with even more intesity than ever. Personally I know that if I am not sore within a day of doing a wod I probably did not workout hard enough- this scares me since I do not want to plateau. I have to make sure that I approach every wod with high intensity and energy and try to get faster and stronger each and every time. I love it when there is a group of us competing and pushing each other on to take that wod to the next level, or if I know that I need to beat a certain number of reps or time that someone else has posted on the board, or beat one of my prior times when it comes to the benchmark wods. Crossfit is an awesome sport and I think you have to approach each wod as a competition, vs. others but mainly vs. yourself. So does it get any easier? No, only if you let it and then you are just cheating yourself out of the possibility of reaching your full potential.
And by the way- I am sore as hell right now so I know I did something right in the last couple of days!!Rest day tomorrow!

I differ with the soreness meter = intensity or results. I really let my performance and my scores be a better judge of my workouts. By keeping my journal I can really see if I am making progress. After some workouts I’m really not that sore, but the real question should be, did I make progress? Was it easier, did I go faster, was my technique better. The numbers don’t lie, that’s why everyone should be keeping a training log.

Oh and about the question does CrossFit get easier? Physically I don’t feel that it does, when you increase your fitness level, your work capacity increases and you just end up working harder in a shorter amount of time, but I feel that your mental capacity to handle the suffering increases, and that carries over into everyday life.

What is a partner assisted sprint?

I hope the work outs don’t get easier, that would make me feel like I’m not gaining anything! (Other than pounds!) Mark, I sooooo enjoyed that row with the oxygen tank and mask! I’ve told a million people. Now where’s the video??! LOL!

Wow! Killer workout today or atleast I thought so! George, thanks for pushing me through today and helping me clean up my cleans.

Also, congrats to all the new certified trainers. It looked like FirePower rocked it out!

Great work Moe, Trish, Karyn and Joyce, only had 4 but it was nice to go over some cleans and then push those sprints. Maybe those car pushes will be next!

  8. Moe says:

Thanks for the great workout Mark – makes me really look forward to the next rugby season. I might even move to the back line ;-)

We should talk to the auto shop behind the gym to see if they let us beat those cars with a sledgehammer!

  9. Karyn says:

Thanks for another great workout Mark. It was nice not having to beat the clock and just be able to focus on maintaining proper form on those cleans. Those sprints were intense… I was exhausted when I got home!
