Ok, we really have to get a bike ride planned. Realistically after Trek or Treat this Friday is better for me, but I think we should hit Kelso and tear it up before the snow flies. Who is in? Anywhere else you think would be close and better?

Hello everyone at Fire Power Training, I am from Maximum Performance Crossfit in Tulsa, OK. I just completed my first adventure race (along with a fellow Crossfitter) with help and advice from Mark and Heather. It was a beginner race with 4.5 miles of trail running, 2 miles of canoeing and 20 miles of mountain biking. There was also a Crossfit-like component at one of the transitions that included push ups, sit ups, jump rope, etc. The trail was rugged and steep and it was raining off an on all day. We finished last with a time of 5:49:10 but this was our first race of any kind. We don’t run anymore that Crossfit workouts and we don’t bike either. Our only training was 4-5 Crossfit workouts a week. At the end of the race we were tired and had some joint soreness from the terrain but absolutely no muscle soreness at all!! I had asked Mark if he thought that our Crossfit workouts were good preparation for a race and he was definitely right when he said, “Yes”. Completing this race just gave me another reason why everyone should Crossfit.

    Hey all!
Great work on Sunday everybody! Thanks for making my virgin “trainer” experience a good one. I can’t believe how many people came in and CHOSE to do Curtis. You guys all rock. Everybody was working hard and staying true to the CF spirit. It was a fun day for me, hopefully I’ll be back for more “timekeeping” soon!

Thanks Stacy, it’s great to share our cool CrossFit stories! It’s great that you can pull off an adventure race without training specifically. If you want to get faster and better at specific sports such as mountain biking, trail running, or paddling, then you should train your muscles for these activities. CrossFit is a great base as a general preparedness program, but just think how much fast you could have gone if you had rode your bike a few times, maybe not even to train your muscles, but to be familiar with the bike and work on your skills and to make sure that you have worked out all the mechanical kinks as well. Plus riding your bike is fun.
